Your weekend starts here — art walks, ice cream, and a Pride market

A Greenville museum morning, a family ice cream trail, First Friday ArtWalk, and local market stops.

Hello, ENC Explorers!

June is here, and Eastern NC has officially moved into “plan around the heat” season. Mornings are for wandering, evenings are for getting back outside, and afternoons are best handled with shade, air conditioning, or ice cream.

This week, we’re keeping things close to Greenville. The Greenville Museum of Art gives you an easy, air-conditioned date idea, the family outing is built around a summer ice cream trail, and the week ahead has First Friday ArtWalk, the Leroy James Farmers Market, and a Pride Market at GMoA.

A museum morning, a dessert-fueled family outing, and a strong local arts weekend are all in this week’s guide.

Date Idea:🎨 Greenville Museum of Art

Location: Greenville
Cost: Free admission | Budget $15/person for coffee or lunch after
Hours: Tuesday–Saturday 10 AM–4:30 PM | Closed Sunday and Monday

Start at the Greenville Museum of Art on South Evans Street. Admission is free, the pace is quiet, and it gives you something to actually talk about besides the usual “where do you want to eat?” loop.

Walk the galleries, pick your favorite piece, then head toward Five Points, Dickinson Avenue, or downtown for lunch or coffee. It is simple, local, and exactly the kind of date that works when you do not want to over-plan the day.

Pro Tip: Go earlier in the day, then turn it into lunch before the afternoon heat settles in.

Family Outing:🍦 Greenville Ice Cream Trail

Location: Greenville
Cost: $14/person
Hours: Shop hours vary; check before going

Make an afternoon out of dessert with a three-stop Greenville ice cream trail. Keep each stop small — one scoop, one treat, or one shared order — and turn it into a family taste test.

Start at Simply Natural Creamery on East Arlington Boulevard for classic hand-dipped ice cream. Then head to GOGO Boba & Rolled Ice Cream on Red Banks Road, where kids can watch rolled ice cream being made. If everyone still has room, finish at sweetFrog on Greenville Boulevard for build-your-own frozen yogurt and toppings.

Give each person a scorecard and rank the stops by flavor, texture, atmosphere, and “would we come back?” It is low-pressure, easy to adjust around weather, and the kind of outing kids will probably ask to repeat before summer is over.

Pro Tip: Do not order big at the first stop. The whole point is to taste a little at each place.

🎨 Barbara J. recommends: Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge

The Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge helps keep local art visible in Greenville through galleries, classes, public art, artist support, and events like the Downtown Greenville ArtWalk.

If you have been to First Friday ArtWalk, taken an art class, or noticed more public art around town, this is one of the organizations helping make that happen.

ENC EVENTS THIS WEEK

Your week in Greenville & ENC: June 3–June 10

Location: Downtown Greenville
Cost: Free
Time: Friday, June 5 from 5 PM–8 PM

First Friday ArtWalk brings galleries, shops, restaurants, live music, and local art into one walkable evening downtown. It is one of the easiest ways to make downtown feel fresh again, especially if you usually only go for dinner.

The Emerald Express Trolley is a free way to move around the route, or you can park once and wander at your own pace.

Pro Tip: Start early if you want dinner downtown afterward. Restaurants can fill up once the ArtWalk crowd is out.

Location: 4560 County Home Road, Greenville
Cost: Free to browse
Time: Saturday, June 6 from 8 AM–noon

The Leroy James Farmers Market is open Saturday morning with local produce, baked goods, flowers, meats, handmade items, and small producers. It is a good low-pressure morning stop before the day gets hot.

Go with a short list or no list at all. Either way, you are likely to leave with something fresh, local, or homemade.

Pro Tip: Go early for the best selection and easier parking.

Location: Greenville Museum of Art, 802 South Evans Street
Cost: Free to browse
Time: Saturday, June 6 from noon–3 PM

The Greenville Museum of Art’s June market celebrates Pride Month with artists, vendors, information booths, and food from Filthy Fries. The event is typically held outside in the museum parking lot, with an indoor move if weather requires it.

It is an easy add-on after a morning downtown or at the farmers market, and it gives you a chance to support local artists and vendors directly.

Pro Tip: Pair it with a quick visit inside the museum while you are already there.
